By:ETF Fund Flow—

The week ending 21/08/2026 was broadly positive for Vietnam-linked ETFs: five of the seven funds tracked in this report ended the week in the green. The US-listed VanEck Vietnam ETF (VNM) led all instruments with a +4.14% weekly gain and a +8.43% one-month advance — yet every fund in the table still sits below its start-of-year level, underscoring that the 2026 recovery remains partial.

Weekly Performance: Five of Seven Funds in the Green

Based on trading data as of 21/08/2026 (Yahoo Finance), the majority of Vietnam-related ETFs advanced over the past five sessions. The two exceptions were the SSIAM VNX50 ETF (FUESSV50), down -2.31% on the week, and the KIM Growth VN30 ETF (FUEKIVFS), down -0.41%. The table below summarises the full dataset used in this report.

VN30-Focused ETFs: Divergent Weekly Paths

The three VN30-linked funds in the dataset illustrate how different products can behave differently even when carrying the same index exposure by name.

  • VFMVN30 ETF (E1VFVN30) closed at 34,750 VND, adding +2.51% for the week and +2.21% over one month, with a +2.81% gain on the final session.
  • SSIAM VN30 ETF (FUESSV30) rose +2.90% on the day and +2.95% on the week to 24,800 VND. Its +3.98% one-month return is the strongest among domestic funds in this report.
  • KIM Growth VN30 ETF (FUEKIVFS), by contrast, slipped -0.82% on the final session and -0.41% on the week, closing at 16,930 VND. Over one month it is down -7.39%, the weakest reading in the dataset.

Diamond, VNX50 and FinLead Funds: Mixed Signals

The three remaining domestic funds painted a more mixed picture.

  • DCVFMVN Diamond ETF (FUEVFVND) rose +2.09% both on the day and on the week to 34,200 VND, with a +2.15% one-month gain.
  • SSIAM VNX50 ETF (FUESSV50) was the only fund lower on the week, falling -2.41% on the day and -2.31% on the week to 28,300 VND. Its one-month return is also negative at -0.81%.
  • SSIAM VN FinLead ETF (FUESSVFL) gained +1.96% on the day and +1.06% on the week, closing at 28,550 VND, with a +2.44% one-month advance.

VanEck Vietnam ETF (VNM): Offshore Momentum Leads the Field

VNM was the standout name of the week. It closed at $17.87, up +4.20% on the final session, +4.14% on the week and +8.43% over the past month — more than double the +3.98% one-month gain of the next-best domestic fund, FUESSV30. VNM was also the only instrument in the dataset with a disclosed trading volume: 530K shares on the session as of 21/08/2026.

That momentum remains incomplete, however: VNM is still -6.49% year-to-date, meaning even the strongest weekly advance in this table has yet to erase earlier losses. The same holds for the domestic leaders — a useful reminder that a strong week is not the same as a completed recovery.

Trading Volume vs. Fund Flows: Reading the Data Correctly

Although this report is titled "Fund Flows and Performance Highlights", the dataset behind it contains prices, percentage returns and trading volume — not official fund flow numbers. The two concepts are frequently confused, but they measure different things.

  • Trading volume is the number of ETF units exchanged between buyers and sellers on the secondary market in a given session. In this dataset, only VNM has a disclosed volume (530K shares on 21/08/2026); the domestic ETFs appear with 0K units, meaning volume was not populated in the data source.
  • Fund flows reflect creation and redemption activity — the change in shares outstanding multiplied by NAV. New creations bring new money into the fund; redemptions pull money out. This information is released by ETF issuers or the exchange, not by price-volume feeds.

Because creation/redemption figures are not part of this week's data, this report does not claim that capital "flowed into" or "flowed out of" any ETF. Price gains and exchange-traded volume alone cannot reveal net creations or redemptions. Investors who want true fund flow signals should consult the official reports published by ETF issuers or the exchange.

One-Month Divergence and Year-to-Date Context

The one-month window shows the widest dispersion among the seven funds. VNM (+8.43%) and FUESSV30 (+3.98%) lead the field, while FUEKIVFS (-7.39%) sits at the opposite extreme — a spread of nearly 16 percentage points. FUESSV50 (-0.81%) is the only other fund in negative territory over the month.

Year-to-date, all seven funds remain below their starting levels:

  • SSIAM VNX50 ETF (FUESSV50): -0.42% — closest to breakeven
  • KIM Growth VN30 ETF (FUEKIVFS): -0.76%
  • SSIAM VN30 ETF (FUESSV30): -1.98%
  • VFMVN30 ETF (E1VFVN30): -3.71%
  • SSIAM VN FinLead ETF (FUESSVFL): -5.96%
  • VanEck Vietnam ETF (VNM): -6.49%
  • DCVFMVN Diamond ETF (FUEVFVND): -10.70% — deepest YTD drawdown

The pattern is uniform: even the best weekly performers have not yet recovered their earlier losses. That consistency confirms that the current uptrend, while broad, is still a partial recovery rather than a full round-trip.

What to Watch in the Coming Weeks

Looking ahead, three themes deserve attention as the market moves deeper into the second half of 2026:

  1. Breadth of the rally. Five of seven funds closed the week positive, but FUESSV50 (-2.31% weekly) and FUEKIVFS (-0.41% weekly) did not participate. A healthier uptrend would need these laggards to turn positive in the sessions ahead.
  2. The VN30 divergence. Both FUESSV30 and FUEKIVFS carry VN30 exposure, yet their one-month paths — +3.98% versus -7.39% — have diverged sharply. Watch whether this gap narrows or widens, as it may signal different institutional positioning between the two vehicles.
  3. Official fund flow data. With all seven funds still negative YTD, the next creation/redemption disclosures from issuers will show whether the price recovery is backed by genuine net inflows or remains a secondary-market phenomenon for now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the report title mention fund flows if the data only covers prices and volume?

True fund flow refers to ETF creation and redemption activity — the change in shares outstanding times NAV — which is disclosed by issuers or the exchange. This weekly report is based on price and volume data as of 21/08/2026 (Yahoo Finance) and contains no official creation/redemption figures. We therefore describe performance and trading volume explicitly, and avoid claiming that capital entered or exited any fund.

Which Vietnam ETF had the strongest weekly performance in the week ending 21/08/2026?

VanEck Vietnam ETF (VNM) led all tracked funds with a +4.14% weekly gain. Among domestic ETFs, SSIAM VN30 ETF (FUESSV30) was the best performer, up +2.95% for the week.

Are all Vietnam ETFs still negative for 2026 year-to-date?

Yes. Based on the data as of 21/08/2026, all seven tracked funds are negative YTD. FUESSV50 is closest to breakeven at -0.42%, while FUEVFVND is furthest behind at -10.70%.
