Buying a domestic ETF listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) is identical to buying any listed equity such as FPT or VCB. Follow these 4 steps to execute your first trade safely and cost-effectively.
Step 1: Open a Vietnam Securities Account via eKYC
Select a licensed Vietnamese brokerage firm offering low or zero trading commissions and fast mobile onboarding (5 minutes via eKYC): DNSE (Entrade X), TCBS (TCInvest), SSI iBoard, VPS SmartOne, or MBS Mobile.
Step 2: Understand HOSE ETF Trading Rules & Hours
- Trading Sessions (GMT+7):
- 09:00 – 09:15: Opening Call Auction (ATO) — Avoid placing market orders during ATO as market makers may not have posted full quotes yet.
- 09:15 – 11:30 & 13:00 – 14:30: Continuous Order Matching (LO / MP orders) — Best window for tight bid-ask spreads.
- 14:30 – 14:45: Closing Call Auction (ATC).
- Minimum Board Lot: 100 ETF units (and multiples of 100).
- Daily Price Limit: ±7% from the reference price on HOSE.
- Settlement Cycle: T+2 (funds and ETF units settle before 12:00 PM two trading days after execution).
Step 3: Check Real-Time VWAP & Bid-Ask Spread Before Ordering
Before submitting your order, open the Market Terminal on etf.com.vn to check:
- Intraday VWAP Spread: Ensure the market price is within ±0.30% of session VWAP/iNAV so you do not overpay during temporary retail spikes.
- Bid-Ask Spread: Use a Limit Order (LO) near the Best Ask or mid-price rather than a blind Market Order (MP), especially on medium-liquidity ETFs.
Step 4: Automate Monthly DCA (SIP)
Use our SIP & Compound Calculator to model a disciplined monthly purchase schedule on a fixed calendar day every month.
